Akinori Iwamura Autographs
Akinori Iwamura is a former professional baseball player from Japan who played primarily as a second and third baseman. Iwamura began his professional baseball career playing for the Yakult Swallows in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball League. He made his debut in 1998 at the age of 19 and played with the Swallows for nine seasons. During his time with the Swallows, Iwamura was selected to the All-Star team five times and won a Gold Glove award in 2004 for his outstanding defensive play.
In 2007, Iwamura left Japan to join the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in Major League Baseball (MLB). He quickly established himself as a valuable player for the Devil Rays, earning a nomination for American League Rookie of the Year in his first season. Iwamura played with the Devil Rays for three seasons, accumulating a batting average of .281 with 169 runs batted in and 18 home runs. After his stint with the Devil Rays, Iwamura played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Oakland Athletics before returning to Japan to finish his career with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2014.
Throughout his baseball career, Iwamura was known for his solid defense and versatility on the field. He was also a clutch hitter, particularly in the postseason. Iwamura won a Japan Series championship with the Yakult Swallows in 2001 and a Silver Slugger Award in 2008 with the Tampa Bay Rays. Today, Iwamura serves as a coach for the Rakuten Eagles and continues to contribute to the development of baseball in Japan.
